Youth Internship Program

Hands-on Theater Experience for Local Youth
Onstage and Behind

Be a Part of the Production Process!

Interns Are Our Next Generation

Salida Theater Project’s Youth Internship Program gives local high school students opportunities to explore the many roles that bring live theater to life, including acting, technical production, marketing and other behind-the-scenes work. Internships may be offered in partnership with Colorado Mountain College, allowing participating students to earn college credit while gaining real-world experience.

Students work alongside experienced actors, directors, production staff and other theater professionals in a supportive, professional environment. Through the program, STP helps young people develop practical skills, discover new interests and become the next generation of local theater artists and arts leaders.

What Interns Do

Interns take on meaningful responsibilities based on their interests, skills and the needs of the theater. They work alongside experienced actors, directors, production staff and marketing professionals, contributing to real projects in a collaborative environment.

Opportunities may include:

  1. Acting roles alongside adult performers

  2. Costume, sound or lighting design

  3. Lighting or sound board operation

  4. Backstage and production support

  5. Digital marketing and social media

  6. Content creation, audience research and community outreach

Interns learn by doing. Whether contributing onstage, backstage or behind the scenes in marketing, they are valued members of the STP team.

Meet Our 2026 Marketing Intern

Cole Shively, a student at Salida High School, joined Salida Theater Project in 2026 as our first youth marketing intern. Through an internship program offered by Colorado Mountain College, he earns college credit while gaining hands-on experience in arts marketing.

Working alongside STP’s marketing team, he is learning about social media, content creation, audience research, community outreach and the strategy behind promoting live theater. His work is helping STP connect with new audiences while giving him practical experience he can carry into college and a future career.
