Youth Internship Program

Hands-on Theater Experience for Local Youth
Onstage and Behind

Be a Part of the Production Process!

Interns Are Our Next Generation

Salida Theater Project’s Youth Internship Program creates opportunities for local students, particularly those connected to the Salida High School drama program, to take part in productions during summer and winter breaks.

The goal of this program is twofold. First, it gives young artists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience alongside experienced actors, directors, and production staff in a professional theater environment. Second, it helps cultivate the next generation of local theater artists, enabling STP to continue bringing strong live performances to the community for years to come.

What Interns Do

Interns are part of the production process from the start. They are treated as full members of the company and contribute onstage and behind the scenes in a collaborative setting. They are integrated into the work, not set apart from it, and take on real responsibilities alongside experienced actors, directors, and production staff.

Opportunities may include:

  1. Acting roles alongside adult performers

  2. Costume design

  3. Sound design

  4. Lighting design and board operation

  5. Backstage and crew support

Interns are treated as collaborators. They learn by doing, working alongside experienced theater professionals.

Summer 2026 Project

This summer, STP will workshop a new play by Salida native J. Lobeck, a recent graduate of Adams State University.

The project will be presented as a staged reading in July.

We hope to include up to six youth interns, working both onstage and behind the scenes:

  • 2 to 3 actors

  • 3 to 4 design and technical roles, including costumes, sound, and lighting

Auditions will be held in May, with rehearsals to follow.
